[The Routine] Adding an Extra Boost to Your Skincare Regimen

[The Routine] Adding an Extra Boost to Your Skincare Regimen..

Before there were masks, there were masks. Facial topical skincare products designed to be applied directly to the skin. Masks come in various formulations and offer a wide range of benefits for different skin types and concerns. I add a mask to my weekly routine, not only as a way to relax and unwind but also for deep cleansing, nourishment and hydration.

The advantages of using facial masks:

  • Deep Cleansing: Many facial masks are formulated to deeply cleanse the skin by drawing out impurities, excess oil, and dirt from the pores. These masks often contain ingredients like clay, charcoal, or activated charcoal, which have absorbent properties that help detoxify and purify the skin.
  • Exfoliation: Some masks contain gentle exfoliating agents, such as fruit enzymes or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), that aid in removing dead skin cells from the surface. Exfoliating masks can promote a smoother, more radiant complexion and help improve the efficacy of other skincare products.
  • Hydration and Moisture: Hydrating masks are infused with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or aloe vera, which provide an intense surge of moisture to the skin. These masks help replenish the skin's moisture barrier, leaving it supple and hydrated.
  • Nourishment and Antioxidants: Facial masks enriched with vitamins, antioxidants, and botanical extracts deliver essential nutrients to the skin. These masks help combat free radical damage, reduce inflammation, and support overall skin health.
  • Brightening and Even Tone: Masks containing ingredients like vitamin C, niacinamide, or licorice extract can help brighten the skin and fade hyperpigmentation, resulting in a more even skin tone and a luminous complexion.
  • Soothing and Calming: For sensitive or irritated skin, masks with ingredients like chamomile, oatmeal, or green tea extract can provide soothing and calming effects, reducing redness and irritation.
  • Firming and Anti-Aging: Some masks are formulated with peptides, collagen, or retinol, which can help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Acne Treatment: Masks with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, such as tea tree oil or sulfur, can be beneficial for individuals with acne-prone skin, as they help reduce acne-causing bacteria and inflammation.

Incorporating facial masks into your skincare routine once or twice a week can provide an extra boost to your overall skincare regimen. For more specific recommendations on which masks are suitable for your skin type and concerns, I encourage you to consult with a dermatologist.

My Simple Mask Routine

Starting with clean skin is the most important step because it ensures optimal absorption of the mask's active ingredients. I use my Silky Foam Cleanser before applying my mask.

On Monday’s I use my Detoxify Anti-Redness Sulfur Mask to help reduce redness and inflammation that comes with stress and daily life in New York!

On Wednesday’s I use my Pore Refining Pumpkin Mask to gently clean out my pores and leave my skin feeling dewy and soft.

On Friday’s, as I head into the weekend, I use my Clarifying Mint Mask to give myself a deep clean and get my skin ready for an active weekend ahead.

I follow my mask with my hyaluronic acid serum and ultra rich peptide renewal to enhance hydration and support my skin barrier.
